Post an announcement or photo to let us know if your student-athlete has made plans for college.

Among those from the Saline Area Schools district who will be signing letters of intent at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday are the following football players, according to the Saline Hornets' website. [Leave a comment to congratulate the players!] The day does not just signify the next step in a student athlete's career; for many fans and those associated with the schools, Signing Day is something to take celebrate. The new voice of Saline High School athletics worked with new Saline football coach Joe Palka in Ohio.
Saline High School athletics is branching out on the web. Beginning this year, local sports fans will be able to hear Hornets sports action on the Internet. Chris Schmidbauer is the voice of HornetRadio.com. Schmidbauer, who lives in Toledo, comes to Saline with new varsity football coach Joe Palka. Schmidbauer worked Palka, who turned Toledo Whitmer into an Ohio football power. Here is our Q&A with Schmidbauer, who lives in Toledo with his wife. Did you know Coach Palka in Ohio? Coach is still somewhat new to Saline. What can you tell people about the way coach Palka runs the football program? I got to work with Joe that last few years in Toledo at Whitmer High School. I did color commentary for their games online last year for the …

Concerns over student behavior at sporting events reached a head Thursday when the entire student section was evicted from the varsity football game at Ann Arbor Huron.
School administrators and coaches have released a public service announcement asking students to be respectful while having fun cheering for the home team at sporting events. Behavior of the student section at varsity football games has been an issue for more much of the year, but it reached a head at Thursday night's game at Ann Arbor Huron. In the final minute of play in the first half, Huron school representatives chased about 20 Saline students off the track that circles the football field. The students were intercepted on their way to the inflatable Ann Arbor Huron helmet from which the team enters the field during pregame festiviites. Before the second half began, the student section was removed from the stadium. Here are some of the…

Coach Betsy French is looking to younger players to replace some top notch seniors.
The members of the Saline Hornets girls’ golf team have some big shoes to fill. Last year’s team went undefeated in match play, never looked back, and won the state championship. This year’s team is looking to duplicate the feat. Returning All-State senior Karla Gross and sophomore Emily White will lead the team of ten as well as compete among themselves for the lowest round during any given match. Coach Betsy French hopes that competition between her top golfers will help them both improve, as well as help teach the others as the season progresses. “We have a strong one-two. They’re really going to push each other. They flip-flop on who scores lower. It’s something I like to see, iron sharpening iron,” said French. The team will take up …

After an injury-plagued season last year, the men’s soccer team is ready to compete in 2011.
Last year did not go as well as the Saline Hornets men’s soccer team would have hoped. Badgered by injuries, the team had a mediocre season that culminated with an early end. This year, they look to improve on their record and post-season performance. “I think they got unlucky last year with some injuries and that got them off to a rocky start. I want them to bring back some confidence to the program,” said head coach Dana Restrick. Leading the team this year are the four captains. Seniors Luke Collins, Mark Sulavik and Eric Williams and junior Andrew Prince have over ten years of varsity soccer experience between them and will help the team on both halves of the field. “Andrew is a great player with a great soccer brain. Luke is a …

Salinehornets.com will feature game stories, photos, videos and more.
Hornets sports fans, here's a site you might want to bookmark. The Saline Hornets website, www.salinehornets.com, has been revamped for the 2011-12 school year. Athletic Director Rob White was happy with the old site’s design, which featured up-to-date schedules, Facebook and Twitter integration, and the ability to post important information. But the new site could become the hub of the Saline Area Schools athletic community. It will feature schedules, rosters, interactive and user-friendly forms, spirit wear and Saline Hornets gear, videos, pictures and game stories. The district paid Varsity News Network, a west Michigan outfit that has done websites for several high schools, an undisclosed amount of money to build the new site which …
