Submitted by the Detroit Red Wings: Detroit Red Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock and Executive Vice President and General Manager Ken Holland successfully defended their bell ringing title on Tuesday as the four duos of Red Wings personnel brought in a grand total of $24,438.69 for The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign at stops throughout Metro Detroit. During a two-hour span of bell ringing at Hiller’s Market in downtown Northville, Babcock and Holland raised $13,462 for the nonprofit, which included an anonymous $5,000 donation. "We have collected thousands of toys over the past few years that are distributed to local children in need. We are asking the public to drop off new unwrapped toys in our main show room," said Steven Whitener, co-owner of Briarwood Ford, located at 750 E. Michigan Ave. Residents are also invited to stop at Briarwood Ford and help out a local family by taking a tag from the Salvation Army Angel Tree. From the tree, donors select a tag which lists the gender, age, clothing sizes and special Christmas needs and wishes of a local child. ANN ARBOR — The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County will celebrate the launch of its 2011 Red Kettle Campaign with a kick-off event Friday, Nov. 11 at Briarwood Mall. The event will take place at noon in the Von Maur seating area on the south side of the shopping center, and will feature representatives from The Salvation Army and special guest Santa Claus. Beginning Friday, The Salvation Army's iconic red kettles will be stationed at more than 35 locations throughout Washtenaw County. Bell ringers will collect donations through Saturday, Dec. 24 (excluding Thanksgiving and Sundays).
