Saline Chamber Award Winners Have History of Community Support

Stonebridge Golf Club and Iott Insurance Agency, Inc. will be honored at an Oct. 11 dinner that is open to the public.

On Oct. 11, the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce will present the 2012 Business Enterprise Award to Stonebridge Golf Club and Iott Insurance Agency, Inc.  Dianne Atwood, the Chamber’s Initiative Award winner, will also be honored during the 6 p.m. gala awards dinner at Stonebridge Golf Club. The public is welcome to attend.  According to a Chamber press release, nominations for the Chamber’s Business Enterprise Award were open to the entire community, and peer recognition is an important component of the nominating process. Larry Osterling to be Roasted at Chamber Event

The Ellen Ewing “Roast” will be held on Friday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m. at Stonebridge Golf Club in Ann Arbor.

Former Saline Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, Larry Osterling, will be the target of the 2012 Ellen Ewing “Roast.” This Saline Area Chamber of Commerce event began in 2001 with the “roast” of Saline’s own, well-loved former School Superintendent Ellen Ewing. The popular evening of honoring a high profile person in the Saline community has become notorious for its choice of fun individuals who have been deemed willing and capable of enduring kidding and zings from a panel of specially-selected “roasters.”   Past “roastees” include Judge Don Shelton, Police Police Chief Paul Bunten, Fire Chief Craig Hoeft, former School Superintendent Sam Sinicropi, former Saline Mayor Pat Little, and well-known community figures Woodie Merchant…

Register Online for Summerfest 5K

The fourth annual Saline Summerfest 5K Run/Walk takes place Aug. 11.

Online registration is underway for the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce’s fourth Saline’s Summerfest 5K Run/Walk on Aug. 11, one of the many family fun activities of Saline’s Summerfest August 10-11.  Pre-race day registration fees are $20. There are special pricing for families (three or more from the same address are $15 each) and organizations (four or more from the same business or organization are $18 each). Saline Fiddlers Open Summer Music Series Tonight

The Saline Fiddlers are releasing their 10th CD, Breaking Free, at tonight's free concert in downtown Saline.

Summer's here and the time is right for dancing in the streets. The Saline Fiddlers kick off the Saline Music Series 2012 in downtown Saline from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, june 14. The free concert series takes place on South Ann Arbor Street, between Michigan Avenue and Henry Street. For the Saline Fiddlers, Thursday's concert is extra special. The group, which dubs itself America's premier youth fiddling band, is releasing its 10th CD, "Breaking Free." The title is dedicated to all Saline Fiddler alumni.  As always, the Saline Fiddlers will draw a big crowd so people are reminded to arrive early for the best seating. Chamber Golf Outing June 8

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce seeks golfers and sponsors for its annual golf outing June 8.

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for golfters and sponsors for its annual golf outing. The outing takes place at Stonebridge Golf Course June 8. Good Morning Saline, From Art Trapp at the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce

Trapp began his new job in the chamber offices Monday.

Trapp, who had been the Saline Downtown Director, was hired to replace Larry Osterling, who recently retired after 12 years on the job. City Bids Adieu to Art Trapp

Downtown Director Art Trapp is leaving the city for the top post with the chamber of commerce.

Friends and co-workers will bid farewell to Art Trapp during an open house at Saline City Hall Friday morning. Cake and coffee will be served in the council chambers at 9:30 a.m. Friday. Trapp, the city's Downtown Director, was selected as the new executive director of the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce. Trapp replaces Larry Osterling, who left the chamber Wednesday after 12 years of leading the organization. The city, which pledged to contribute $200,000 over five years to Saline Main Street, is eliminating the downtown director position.

Open House for Osterling Friday

After more than 12 years of leading the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce, Larry Osterling is retiring. .

The Saline community is invited to an open house for Saline Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Larry Osterling, who is leaving the chamber at the end of the month. The open house is at the Spotted Dog Winery from 1-4 p.m. Friday. In January, at the chamber's annual meeting, Osterling talked about working with the chamber and his decision to leave. “I’ve really enjoyed my service to the Saline area community and I thank everyone who’s been so helpful and supportive of me and our chamber over the years. We’re a strong, respected, and effective business organization and I’ve been fortunate to be part of some major successes here," Osterling said. If you interviewed the businesses in Saline and surrounding areas, you would find an overwhelming majority saying that the City of Saline treats small business very poorly. Businesses joined the Saline Chamber believing that participating in the association would benefit their business. It most certainly does not. Chamber Chooses Trapp as New Leader

Trapp has been the city's Downtown Development Director since 2006.

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce has named Art Trapp as its new executive director. Trapp, the City of Saline’s Downtown Development Director since Jan. 2, 2006, takes the place of Larry Osterling, who is retiring at the end of the month after 12 years leading the organization. The chamber is hosting an open house for Osterling from 1-4 p.m. Friday at the Spotted Dog Winery. Karen Ragland, President of the chamber’s Board of Directors, said Trapp’s familiarity with Saline and his strong relationships in the community will help the organization with the leadership transition. “We’re thrilled to have Art on board. Saline Salutes: Stan Poet Recalls Life at the Farm Grounds

Poet won the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce Community Spirit award.

How do you stay on top of your game after more than 25 years on the job? For Stan Poet, who managed the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds for 27 years until retiring last fall, staying motivated was easy. “I loved coming to work every day,” said Poet, who was honored as winner of the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce Community Spirit Award, a special new award created to honor Poet at Friday’s Saline Salutes banquet. At one point, the farm grounds hosted 425 events a year — more than one a day, and drew 500,000 visitors annually. What Poet loved most about the work was the passion of the people walking into the farm grounds.
