U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Carl Levin (on Feb. 21) announced support for five fire departments across southeast Michigan to help improve operations and safety. Senator Stabenow said, "Our firefighters provide brave and crucial services to communities across Southeast Michigan. These grants will provide the resources and tools they need to perform their duties effectively and protect the public." Senator Levin said, "Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day, and we owe them and the communities they serve all the support we can provide." Holiday Concert will help collect Toys for Tots.
Fiddlers ReStrung and the Saline Area Fire Department (SAFD) have joined forces to benefit Toys for Tots. “It is a great partnership,” said SAFD Chief Craig Hoeft said. SAFD is currently collecting gift and cash donations for the Toys for Tots Foundation at the 205 E. Michigan Avenue location. Fiddlers ReStrung will help the department collect toys by hosting a Holiday Hometown Concert called Fiddle Beat in the Ellen Ewing Performing Arts Center at Saline High School on Dec. 2 at 2:00 p.m., 1300 Campus Parkway in Saline. Fiddlers ReStrung, a group featuring 22 musicians from Saline High School (SHS) is asking concert patrons to bring an unwrapped gift to the show. Kick off your Saline Summerfest Saturday morning with pancakes and sausage at the fire hall.
The Saline Area Firefighters' Association invites residents to a pancake breakfast at the firehall from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday morning. The firefighters are serving pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and donuts for $6. The breakfast takes place at the fire hall, located at Michigan Avenue and Harris Street. Proceeds benefit the Saline Area Firefighters' Association.

Chief Hoeft invites the public to the annual Saline Area Fire Department "Firehouse Chicken" broil. The event takes place from 11:30 a.m until 6 p.m. (or until the chicken is gone) Saturday, Aug. 11, at the South Ann Arbor Street parking lot during Saline Summerfest. The dinner, which costs $8, includes a grilled half chicken, radishes, coleslaw, a dinner roll and a bag of chips. The 30-year-old man was in critical but stable condition following the crash.
A 30-year-old motorcyclist was in critical but stable condition following a collision with a pickup truck on Ann Arbor-Saline Road Wednesday morning. Just before 8 a.m. a motorcycle was northbound on Ann Arbor Saline Road north of Textile Road when it struck a southbound pickup truck turning left into the cemetery, according to Washtenaw County Sheriff Sgt. Geoff Fox. Saline Area Fire Department and Washtenaw County Sheriff responded to the scene. The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man, was transported to hospital, Fox said. Washtenaw County Sheriff's Traffic Investigation team investigated the crash. This story will be updated as details are available.

While police investigated a fender bender, another vehicle slammed into the police cruiser.
One man was hospitalized after a crash at Michigan Avenue and Industrial Drive Tuesday afternoon. Saline Police were investigating a routine fender bender when it turned into something that closed two lanes of eastbound Michigan Avenue traffic at the intersection. The incident began when a black Ford car rear-ended a Chrysler minivan. Saline Police officer Mike Snook arrived on the scene to investigate. As he interviewed the driver of the minivan, a man driving a White Ford Escape apparently had some sort of health incident, according to Police Chief Larry Hrinik, and drove into the back of a GMC Suburban, keeping his foot on the gas. The Surburban pulled out of the way and the Escape smashed into the back of the police cruiser, which was …
