The Fifth Corner Seeks Program Director

Saline's teen center is looking for a part-time employee to coordinate activities.

Like working with the younger generation? Looking for a part-time job? Then perhaps your next email should be to David Rhoads, President of The Fifth Corner Teen Center in Saline. Saline's student-driven community center,  open for students eligible for enrollment in Saline Middle School and Saline High School, is looking for a program director. "We're looking for someone with an outgoing personality, who loves to work with youth, and who is organized and can manage programming at the The Fifth Corner," said Rhoads. Rhoads said the program director works 10-15 hours a week, depending on the activities scheduled. The will make $500 to $600 a month. Despite Rain, Recycling Event Draws Big Turnout at 5th Corner

The event, sponsored by the Saline Environmental Commission, raised funds for the Fifth Corner teen center.

Despite rain, dreary skies and chilly temperatures, the E-Waste Recycling Event held Saturday at the Fifth Corner teen center had its biggest collection ever, organizers say. The event was sponsored by the Saline Environmental Commission and raised funds for the 5th Corner Teen Center.

Recycle Electronics at Fifth Corner Saturday

The event raises money for Saline's student-driven teen center.

Do you have old, unwanted electronics cluttering your house and filling up your closets and basement? The Saline Environmental Commission and Fifth Corner Teen Center is providing area residents with the chance to recycle household electronics from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fifth Corner, located at 211 Willis Rd. (corner of South Ann Arbor Street and Willis Road). Proceeds from the event will raise money for the Fifth Corner, Saline's student-driven teen center. There is no charge for recycling. Good Morning Saline From Teens at Fifth Corner

Have old electronics around the house? The teens at the Fifth Corner will take care of it Saturday.

Today's Good Morning Saline greeting is from some of the teenagers at the Fifth Corner Teen Center. On Saturday, at the Fifth Corner, the teen center and the Saline Environmental Commission, are recycling old electronics from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers will be at the center to help people unload, televisions, printers, VCRs, DVD players, stereos, video game consoles, keyboards, computers, monitors, peripherals, all computer parts, phones, PDAs and cell phones. Items not accepted include, copiers, electronic tools, hair dryers, curling irons, cash registers, typewriters, terminals or UPS batteries. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Fifth Corner, Saline's student-driven teen center. For more information, call 216-7473.

Good Morning Saline, From the 5th Corner Chili War Champs

Today's greeters helped raise more than $1,000 for the 5th Corner and Saline Youth Council.

Today's Good Morning Saline greeters are Grant Geiger, Heather Kiningham and Kelly Barbret, of the Saline Youth Council, and Jody Roberts, the 5th Corner Chili Wars champions. Roberts cooked the chili, while volunteers from the Saline Youth Council helped steer donors to Roberts' vegan chili in the basement of 5th Corner during Saturday's event. The event raised $1,036 for the 5th Corner and the Saline Youth Council. Saline Middle School teacher Lucas Foster took second. Sheri Fordice finished third.

Chili Wars Raises $1,000 for 5th Corner

The heat was on at the 5th Corner Saturday as an army of crock pot-carrying contestants descended upon the teen center for the inaugural Chili Wars. The event raised raises close to $1036.47, most of which will used to pay for events at Saline’s student-driven teen center. Peter Rufener, Program Director for 5th Corner, estimated that more than 200 people visited the center during the event. “It was a great day. I want to thank all the volunteers and all the people who came out here today. People had a good time and we raised more money than we expected,” Rufener said. The teen center’s student board will use the money to finance events. The board plans to rent sumo wrestling suits for an upcoming wrestling tournament. Patrons went from …

Poll: Who Will Win the 5th Corner Chili Wars?

Saline teen center and one local non-profit will benefit from Saturday's Chili Wars.

The Fifth Corner Teen Center is having its first ever "Chili Wars" event to raise money for the center and other local charities. More than a dozen local residents are busy testing chili recipes for the event, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 21 at the Fifth Corner. Each contestant will have a donation box at their serving station. Whoever collects the most donations at the end wins the "Chili Wars." Most of the proceeds will go toward events planned by the Fifth Corner Student Board. However, 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to a charity of the winner of the Chili Wars. The Fifth Corner Teen Center is having its first ever "Chili Wars" event to raise money for the center and other local charities. Local Kids Won Big

The Kiwanis Club of Saline led an effort that raised more than $11,000 for organizations serving kids.

Local kids are the winners after a successful campaign led by the Kiwanis Club of Saline. On March 24 the Kiwanis Club of Saline staged the Inaugural 'Win Big For Kids Dinner and Raffle' at the Washtenaw Farm Council Grounds. Partnering with other Saline organizations, The 5th Corner Teen Center, The Saline Community Fair Board, The Rotary Club, Boy Scout Troop 457, Saline Area Girl Scouts, Saline Police Cadets and Saline Area Social Services, over $11,000 was raised with all proceeds going to help with the following projects: In addition to the main raffle there were 'Side Board' Raffles for two iPads, a 42-inch flat screen TV as well as many cash prizes. I am thnkful for those who participated in this 5K run. All of the runners I spoke with said they enjoyed the route and being with fellow runners for a good cause, The Fifth Corner.
