Construction Resurgence in Saline Bodes Well for Local Economy

After home construction in the area came to a near standstill in 2007, new houses are once again going up. This increase is expected to continue and is good news for the local economy.

From Legacy Heights to Huntington Woods, from Harwood Farms to Hidden Creek Estates, builders are once again active in the Saline area. Where lots sat empty houses are now rising. In Pittsfield Township alone, 98 permits for new houses were issued in 2012 with a total value exceeding $19 million. New construction is also happening in other surrounding townships and in Saline itself. But it was not always this way. Assisted Living Center Rising on Former School Property

An assisted living facility is being built on former school property in the heart of Saline.

At a site where Salinians once attended youth soccer games, a large new structure is rising. Reenders, Inc. of Grand Haven purchased the land at the corner of N. Maple Road and Woodland Drive from Saline Public Schools to build an assisted living facility. Linden Square Assisted Living Center will be built in two phases, and the $9 million first phase is well underway.  The facility will offer residents daily meals, housekeeping services, laundry and specialized care. It will also cater to residents with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Woodland Drive Construction Begins

East-bound drivers on Woodland Drive will be detoured north on Maple Road.

The $739,000 Woodland Drive construction project is set to begin June 18. The city is reconstructing Woodland Drive between Maple Road and Industrial Drive. The target for completion is Aug. 30. The official detour route is included. For people heading east, the detour will take drivers North on Maple Road, east on Textile Road, and then south on Woodland Drive. For people using Woodland drive to go south or west, one lane will remain open. Ann Arbor-based Barrett Paving Materials won the bid for the project.
