The pacts with local restaurant owners will allow for development of the space behind their establishments, through Saline's Main Street program.
Saline city officials have moved forward a project to transform a downtown alley into a new community gathering place, by approving lease agreements with two restaurant owners and Saline Main Street, according to a Thursday story in The Saline Reporter. Saline Patch reported in August that Main Street program manager Kelly Idzikowski told city officials Brecon Grille and Mangiamo’s had agreed to lease the alley for a small fee. With those agreements in place, the restaurants will allow use of their portions of the alley for public events. The Saline Post's report indicated those events could include "a wine tasting, art gallery or pet adoption" and quoted Design Team Chair Rebecca Schneider as saying, “Our alley is not that dilapidated, …

After a top-10 finish in the Let's Save Michigan placemaking contest, Saline's "Alley Project" remains in the running for up to $2,000 in grants.
If you cast a vote for the proposed downtown Saline “Alley Project” in the Let’s Save Michigan “placemaking” contest, you helped make the project a finalist for up to $2,000 in grant funding. In voting conducted on the Let’s Save Michigan website, Saline’s Alley Project finished ninth with 1486 votes. The top ten finalists are headed to panel of judges who will determine the grand prize project and multiple runners-up. "Thank you to everyone who supported the project. Daily voting has put us in the top 10. We will wait to see what the judges have to say. Saline Main Street can win $2,000 to support a plan to beautify the alley behind the downtown businesses on the southwest corner of Michigan Avenue and Ann Arbor Street.
Would you like to see the alley behind Brecon Grille beautified with lights, tables, plants, decorations, an arch and more? Saline residents can help make it a reality by voting for the project at the Michigan Municipal League's "Let's Save Michigan" placemaking contest page. The contest will award $2,000 to fund the project of one grand prize winner, and will grant multiple awards, ranging from $500 to $2000, to partially or fully fund the projects of runners-up. Years ago when George Anderson was Mayor (we City council) paved and put lights in the alley. I beleive late seventies. Liking to seeing a arch, new lights, and decorations in this walkway. and the taxpayers paying for it are two different things. The city is asking city employees to pay more for their benifits and cutting back employees. The city it appears plans on borrowing close to a million …   more ›
