Saline was perfect in the SEC until Thursday.
The Saline varsity boys' golf team dropped its first SEC loss of the season at Brookside Golf Course Thursday. The top four golfers for each team accumulated identical team scores of 154. The tiebreaker, the score of the fifth golfer, went to Huron by a single stroke. The Hornets were led by Caleb Wittig's 37. Ian Martin (38), Ryan Peruski (39) and Jackson Lambert (40) rounded out the the Hornet four. Huron's Kevin Masini was the top golfer, scoring a 35. Danny Langa and Guy Frydenlund came in at 38. Jack Ottenwess and Reid McCallister shot a 43. The Hornets finished 10-1 in SEC to finish tied with Huron in the regular season. Wednesday night, the Saline High School varsity girls' lacrosse team recognized its five seniors.
The Saline varsity girls' lacrosse team fell to Holt 19-9 Wednesday night. But spirits were high in the stadium because it was "Senior Night." At halftime, the team and coach Deb Elliot honored Hornets' five seniors: Jessie Opaleski, Alison Rentschler, Emily Jablonski, Caleigh Chong and Carly Armstrong.

Monday night was senior night for the Saline High School varsity soccer team.
Saline improved in the SEC with a 6-0 win over Monroe Monday night. But the biggest story of the night was the recognition of 11 seniors, may of whom have played soccer together since elementary school Saline has one home game left. Cheer them on Thursday as they take on Huron. They wrap up the season Tuesday at Ann Arbor Pioneer.

Saline High School senior Garrick Roemer has some business to take care of before he moves on to the University of Michigan where he’ll continue his studies and track career. Tuesday afternoon, surrounded by coaches and family, Roemer signed a letter of intent to run for the Wolverines. “I’m so excited about it, growing up just down the street. It’s been a dream of mine these last couple years,” said Roemer, son of Cathy and Milan Radovich. But Roemer, undefeated this year in the 400-meter race, has a few things to do yet in a Saline Hornet uniform. Thrower Randi Bennett was a double winner, taking the shot put and the discus as Saline won another meet.
The Saline Hornets girls’ track and field ran away with the Siena Heights Invitational Friday. Saline finished with 182 points, far ahead of second place Pioneer (144.5 points). Thrower Randi Bennett had another huge day, winning in the discus (118-04) and shot put (35-05). Samantha Richart cleared 5-02 to win the high jump. Rachel Maxton, Wendy Szuminski and Jacqueline Marchidon finished tied for fourth in high jump (5-0). Sophomore Quenee’ Dale continued her big season, winning the 100 hurdles in 15:05. Saline’s only relay win came in the 400, where Amanda Luurtsema, Samantha Richart, Alexa Ross and Dale finished in 49.63. ADRIAN — That state’s top ranked boys’ track and field team continued its winning ways at Siena Heights University. Saline finished with 130 points, 28 more than second place Adrian. Ann Arbor Pioneer was third with 93. The Hornets won five events. In the field, Steve Bastien jumped eight inches farther than everyone else, winning the long jump with a leap of 22-10. Saline senior Michael Andreas finished tied for third with a jump of 20-10. Michael Smutny won the high jump with a leap of 6-02. Joey Leptich was finished fifth with a jump of 6-0. Cincinnati, Ohio — Saline Crew traveled to Cincinnati this weekend to compete in the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships (MSRC) hosted by Clermont Crew, the Cincinnati Country Day School Crew, and the Community Rowers of Cincinnati. With close to 1,500 rowers representing 45 teams from 10 states, it is one of the largest high school regattas in the nation and serves as a qualifier for both the SRRA and USRowing National Championships. The event opened Saturday with warm and dry weather for time trials and semi-finals. Saline’s varsity softball team improved to 12-2 in the SEC by sweeping a doubleheader at Monroe Monday. Pitcher Kristina Zalewski won both games as Saline won 5-1 and 13-3. In the opener, Zalewski struck out 10 and walked three. Angel Schilke went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Laura Vaccaro was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Katie Alexander tripled and drove in a run. Zalewski earned the win in the second game. She struck out two and walked none. Vaccaro struck out three without a walk to pick up the save. Schilke was 2-for-3 at the plate. State Champs covered the Saline girls' lacrosse team's 11-10 win over Canton May 9. Allison Rentschler and Chelsey Bishop scored hat tricks for Saline, who came from behind to win. The Hornets are in action Monday night at Pioneer and wrap up their season Wednesday against Holt at Saline High School. Strong singles play carried the day as the Hornets aced Skyline 7-1 at Saline High School Monday. In the top flight, Mary Hanna remained unbeaten season, defeating Danielle Mitroi 6-0 and 6-0. Jennifer Ho defeated Megan Smith 6-0 and 6-0 in the second flight. Heather Vogt won her third flight set 6-0 and 6-1. Darby Malloy defeated Sarah Wang, 6-0 and 6-1. In doubles, Margaret Sheets and Lauren Rasmussen won their set 6-1 and 6-0. Kelsey Pelletier and Julia Prisby won 7-5 and 6-0. Ali Horwood and Syd Bunch won their set 6-2 and 6-0.
