Price Killway, Father of 2, Lived Life with Passion, Humor

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 15, at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Saline.

Price Marshall Kilway, Saline, passed away on Saturday, May 12, 2012. He was born in Utah but lived most of his life in Michigan. He was a kind and gentle man that considered everyone a good friend no matter how long he knew them. He lived his life with passion and humor and together with his wife raised a loving and devoted family that will miss him everyday. He is survived by his devoted wife Carol, loving daughters Shannon (Brian) Winters of Eaton Rapids, Heather (Martin) Ball of Milan and cherished granddaughters Rory Anne Ball and Madison Ann Winters. Mildred Marken, who worked at Universal Die for 35 years, Raised 4 Children

A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at 11:30 a.m.

Mildred L. Marken, age 93, passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at her home. She was born on March 27, 1919, in Catlin, IL, the daughter of Elmer T. and Hazel M. (Hogg) Shaw. On August 22, 1936 in Whitmore Lake, she married Charles W. Marken Jr. and he preceded her in death on April 25, 1997. Mildred had been employed at Universal Die cast for over 35 years until her retirement. Survivors include three children; Katherine (Claude) Shepard of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Charles (Linda) Marken III of Chelsea, and Vicki L. (Thomas) Marken-Horn of Saline. Other survivors include 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 31 great-great-grandchildren, a sister-in-law Pauline Shaw, two special nephews Ed and Greg, and many other nieces and nephews. …

Ormsby, Father of 2, Was Electrical Inspector for Saline, Milan and York

Funeral services for Stephen Ormsby are at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Christ Our King Lutheran Church.

Stephen E. Ormsby, age 63, died suddenly on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at his home. Steve was born August 18, 1948 in Saline, the son of Ted E. and Edith (Way) Ormsby. On June 21, 1969, he married Mary Jane Lambarth and they raised their family in the Saline area. Steve was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army from 1969-1971, and was stationed in Germany where he and Mary Jane built many friendships and fond memories. After returning to Saline, Steve resumed his work as an electrician and in 1974 he started his business, Ormsby Electric, which he proudly operated with his sons, Mike and Jeff. Steve was also a state licensed electrical inspector for the Cities of Saline and Milan, and York Township. He was admired and often consulted by other …

Obituary: Russell M. Burkhart

The Saline native was a World War II veteran and longtime employee of Saline Area Schools.

Russell M. Burkhart, 88, of LaGrange, IN, formerly Shipshewana, died at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Millers Merry Manor-LaGrange. He had been in declining health the past month. He was born on September 15, 1923 in Saline, to Charles R. and Vera F. (Mast) Burkhart. On June 8, 1946 in Manchester he married Maxine Burmeister; she survives. Survivors in addition to his wife are twin daughters, Jean R. (Jeff) Farmwald of Half Moon Bay, CA, Joan K. (Ray) Bontrager of Shipshewana; a son, Mark E. (Denise) Burkhart of Boise, ID; 8 grandchildren, Jacquelynn, Megan, Brandon, Summer, Autumn, Eden, Jada, and Avery; three great-grandchildren, T.J., Izabella and Brooklyn; many nieces and nephews. Obituary: Doris Marie Rankin

Doris Marie Rankin, age 87, passed away on April 13, 2012, at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born July 10, 1924, in Ann Arbor, the daughter of Robert E. and Vera (Bragg) Goodin. Doris was a member of the Milan Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #106. Survivors include one son Charles L. (Mary Ann) Rankin of Saline, MI, grandchildren Timothy (Shelley) Rankin, and Malissa (Duane) Guenther. Other survivors include four great-grandchildren Codie, Hannah, William, and Zachary. Doris was the last of eight siblings. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at 11 at the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home in Saline with Rev. Beth Foster, officiating. Assisted Suicide Advocate Jack Kevorkian of Royal Oak Dies at 83

Longtime resident was a lightning rod for controversy and a familiar face around town.

Assisted suicide advocate Dr. Jack Kevorkian of Royal Oak died at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak this morning after being hospitalized with kidney, liver and respiratory problems off and on for several weeks. He was 83. Kevorkian first made headlines for his right-to-die stand in 1990 when he assisted in the death of Janet Adkins, who had Alzheimer’s disease. The former pathologist admitted to assisting in an estimated 130 deaths from 1990-98. More recently, he served eight years of a 10- to 25-year sentence in the 1998 death of Thomas Youk, who suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease. He was released from prison in 2007 and returned to live in an apartment in Royal Oak, where he was frequently seen at his favorite restaurants and shops. …

Memorial Service For Jean Campbell Set June 12

Long-time Saline resident and founder of local craft shows was well known for porcelain dolls.

A memorial service for local artisan and long-time Saline resident Jean  Campbell will be held 3 p.m., June 12, at the United Methodist Church, 1200 N. Ann Arbor Street, Saline. Campbell  died  in January at the age of 80.   Campbell, an Iowa native who spent her early years in Ann Arbor, moved to Dexter at the age of 12. She was a member of Dexter Methodist Church and graduated from Dexter High School in 1949.     “Mom was very active in school, plays, organizing events, was a cheerleader, and enjoyed family reunions at the park there in Dexter,” said her daughter Laurie Campbell Nunez.    After marrying Daniel Campbell – the current “Ambassador” of the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce and lifetime member of Lions Club  – in 1949, she …

Photo Gallery: 'Field of Honor' Pays Tribute to Michigan's Fallen Troops

The flags and biography tags are on display this weekend at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Oakland Township.

Just inside the iron gates of Guardian Angel Cemetery on Rochester Road in Oakland Township, 245 American flags arranged meticulously in six rows flap in the breeze. Each of the flags represents a Michigan serviceman or woman who died as a result of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, and each flagpole bears that man or woman's name, photograph, hometown and a short biography. “We’ve done the flags for the past couple years, and the idea to add the tags with the bios on it was a collective idea," said Guardian Angel Cemetery Director Wendy Mann. “We’ve been working on it for the past couple months.
