Reception With Artists Larry Cressman and Charles Kanwischer Slated For Wednesday, Nov. 13

WHAT: An exhibition celebrating the resurgence of drawing as an artistic medium is on display at Washtenaw Community College’s GalleryOne. The exhibition titled, “Expanding The Line: Innovation” runs through Dec. 13. The focus of the exhibition is to explore the medium of drawing from a myriad of perspectives -- such as 20th Century surrealist artists who used drawing as the catalyst to explore their subconscious and contemporary artists who use drawing as a primary artistic vehicle.

The exhibition has a unique element – word and visual games which were actually used by surrealist artists and poets to spur creativity and innovation. One word game, “Exquisite Corpse”asks players to compose a poem – and then cover up all but the last line. Then the next player starts their poem using that line – forming one poem with each individual entry. All exhibition visitors will be asked to contribute to the“Exquisite Corpse” game and the entire book will be unveiled on Dec. 11 at 11 a.m. at GalleryOne.

Artists Larry Cressman and Charles Kanwischer will talk informallyabout their creative work during a special reception on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Cressman is a Professor of Art at the Penny Stamps School of Art and Design and the Residential College, both at the University of Michigan. Kanwischer is a Professor of Art at Bowling Green University in Ohio.
