Who Makes Saline a Better Community?

The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce is nominating outstanding citizens

It requires dedicated people to make Saline a great community. The Saline Area Chamber of Commerce is asking for your help in honoring that dedication at the annual Saline Salutes event. The event takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 13 with a banquet in the commons area and awards ceremony in the Ellen A. Ewing Performing Arts Center.

Each year the chamber hosts “Saline Salutes,” an event honoring citizens in areas of service, lifetime achievement and vision.

The Chamber is now accepting nominations for Citizen of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, and the George A. Anderson Vision Award.

The Citizen of the Year is someone who has contributed a significant amount of time during 2011 within the community in a volunteer capacity. The Lifetime Achievement Award recipient is someone who has dedicated many years of service to his or her community. The George A. Anderson Vision Award is for someone who serves in a volunteer or advisory capacity within a Saline area government entity.

Completed nomination forms attached in this article are due in the chamber office by the end of February.  Award winners will be selected by a special blue-ribbon panel of community leaders representing all areas of our community assembled by the chamber.

A youth award also will be selected and presented by the Saline Youth Council.

In 2011, Becky Pazkowski was named Citizen of the Year. Jack Fagin earned the Lifetime Achievement award. The Youth of the Year was presented to Catherine Bernard by the Saline Youth Council

The Saline Salutes features entertainment, a strolling buffet prepared and served by culinary arts students in the South and West Washtenaw Consortium and the awards program. Cost for the event is $20 per person for reservations made by April 8. Reservations can be obtained by calling the Saline Area Chamber of Commerce at 734.429.4494 or by going to the calendar page on the Chamber’s website, www.salinechamber.org.
