SHS Track Teams Donate to Food Gatherers

Saline's track teams donated 639 pounds and $86 to the Washtenaw County food bank.

The Saline Track and Field teams held their fourth annual Running on Empty Food Drive for Food Gatherers on Tuesday April 24 at Hornet Stadium during their home meet.

Track Captain, Bridget Smith has organized the event for the past four years. She reported 639 pounds of food and $86 dollars in cash were donated Tuesday evening.

“I want to thank our team, coaches and track families for making this drive a success,” Smith said. “Working together we really did make a difference for the families that need to use Food Gatherers’ services.”

The team captains decided to challenge the boys and girls teams to compete against each other to see who could bring in the most food. The girls’ team won the challenge and is relishing the victory, Smith said.

Overall,  the Saline track and cross country team’s efforts have raised more than a ton of food for Food Gatherers, a community non –profit agency that serves Saline and Washtenaw County  human services agencies, churches and food pantries.  For more info visit www.foodgatherers.com.
