Salvation Army Offers Volunteer Opportunities

There are dozens of ways to volunteer for the Salvation Army of Washtenaw This Summer.

The Salvation Army of Washtenaw County has a number of Summer-season volunteer opportunities available at its  Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Corps Community Centers.

Ann Arbor

The Ann Arbor Corps Community Center is seeking volunteers for a variety of tasks including attending the front desk, cleaning, landscaping, raking and gardening. Help is also needed to sort, organize and bag food pantry items and assist with family pick-up during food distribution.

In addition, local businesses or organizations are needed to “adopt” the Staples Family Center and/or Veteran’s Haven of Hope House for the day, in which groups of volunteers provide materials for and prepare a home-cooked meal for residents.

Ypsilanti

The Ypsilanti Corps Community Center is looking for volunteer cooks and servers for its soup kitchen. Between 60-80 people are served dinner on Mondays and Thursdays, and lunch on Wednesdays. Anyone interested in cooking is asked to arrive by 3 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays, while serving volunteers are welcomed to arrive by 4:45 p.m. All materials are provided. The Salvation Army (TSA), an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian church dedicated to serving people in need without discrimination. Operating in Washtenaw County for more than 100 years, the non-profit addresses the physical and spiritual needs of the area through various programs and service centers located in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti. Essential services provided by TSA of Washtenaw County include a food pantry, soup kitchen, clothing, an emergency family shelter, transitional housing and counseling for veterans, character building for youth, camp programs, emergency and disaster relief, utility assistance and eviction prevention.
