The is having its first ever "Chili Wars" event to raise money for the center and other local charities.
More than a dozen local residents are busy testing chili recipes for the event, which takes place from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. April 21 at the Fifth Corner. Each contestant will have a donation box at their serving station. Whoever collects the most donations at the end wins the "Chili Wars."
Most of the proceeds will go toward events planned by the Fifth Corner Student Board. However, 10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to a charity of the winner of the Chili Wars.
The Fifth Corner Teen Center opened in the fall of 2010. It serves about 80-100 middle school and high school students each week with after school programs, Friday Night @ The 5th and music programs. Proceeds from the event will help the center fund "Sumo Wars," during students wearing rented "Sumo Suits" battle each other.
The center is student-driven and billed as a great and safe place to hang out and connect with friends.
The Chili Wars event is designed to raise community awareness and money.
