VIDEO: Cleary's Pub Sessions, Highland Games Athletes Bring Celtic Vibe Downtown

On the eve of Saline's big festival, there was a Celtic vibe downtown.

On the eve of the Saline Celtic Festival at Mill Pond Park, local residents previewed the fun downtown Thursday night.

The Cleary's Pub Sessions Band from Chelsea performed their brand of traditional Irish music at the Saline Summer Music Series free concert on South Ann Arbor Street.

Athletes from Saturday's Highland Games at the Saline Celtic Festival were on hand to demonstrate the "sheaf toss" event.

In the sheaf toss, athletes attept to use a pitchfork to toss a 20-pound burlap bag of rope over a bar that can be raised 20-feet high. It was the only Highland Games event that could be held downtown without damaging the street. Other events includ stone throwing, the hammer throw, weight over bar and Caber toss.

Two Twelve Arts Center provided materials for youngsters to make art.

The Celtic Festival gets underway Friday with Pub Night. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.

The limerick contest takes place at 6:30 p.m.

Energetic Celt rockers Road Kilt take the stage at 7:15 p.m. and again at 9:15 p.m.

The sixth annual Mr. Pretty Legs takes place at 8:15 p.m.

Beth Patterson takes the stage at 10:30 p.m.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for youth. Kids 12 and under get in free.
