Instead of fighting fire, the will use it to satisfy the tummies and taste buds of more than 1,000 people at Summerfest Saturday.
After a pancake breakfast at the Saline Fire Department from 8-10 a.m., the fire department invites the public to the annual Saline Area Fire Department "Firehouse Chicken" broil.
The event takes place from 11:30 a.m until 6 p.m. (or until the chicken is gone) Saturday, Aug. 11, at the South Ann Arbor Street parking lot during Saline Summerfest.
Deputy Chief Charles Schaible built a portable grill that the department will use at the event.
Proceeds go to the Friends of the Saline Area Fire Department, which is raising money toward the purchase of a new all-terrain-vehicle for the department.
The dinner, which costs $8, includes a grilled half chicken, radishes, coleslaw, a dinner roll and a bag of chips.
This year, diners can call ahead at 734-531-8404 and pick up the food in the Benny's Bakery driveway off Michigan Avenue.
