ViewFinder: Hornets Play at University of Michigan

Saline tuned up for Saturday's MHSAA baseball district with a game at the University of Michigan Wednesday.

The Saline Hornets baseball team played at the University of Michigan's Ray Fisher Stadium Wednesday, coming away with a 10-inning, 11-11 tie with Gibraltar Carlson.

The game just recently added to the schedule. Coach Scott Theisen said the team used the scheduled 9-inning game to get playing time for some of the athletes who've not played a lot recently.

"And, you don't turn down a chance to play at a facility like this," Theisen said.

For the players, it was a special treat.

Doug Mitchell played here last year in the state quarterfinals.

"It's pretty exciting. It's a great field. It's beautiful. There are no flaws. It's consistent. You don't get bad hops like you do on the high school fields," said Mitchell, who also played a high school hockey game at the Big House in December.

Andrew White was recently called up from the junior varsity team.

"It was cool to experience something as nice as a D1 college field. I liked the infield grass. It was short and got consistent hops everywhere," White said. "And the step down dug out. You don't see those every day."
