Saline Sophomore named to National Elite Youth All-American Track Team

Logan Wetzel also qualified the 1500 meters at the 2013 World Youth Championships to be held in the Ukraine.

Logan Wetzel, a sophomore at , has been named to the prestigious National Elite Youth All-American team for the 2012 Track & Field season, for his accomplishments in the 800, 1500 and 1600 meters events for both indoor and outdoor competitions, under the Intermediate Boys Classification.

Wetzel was the Silver medalist in this year's Freshman Mile at the New Balance Indoor Nationals held in New York City, with a time of 4:20.92, breaking the previous freshman indoor National record by almost two seconds.

Wetzel completed his inaugural high school track campaign undefeated in the SEC Conference in the 1600 meters and was in the elite level of the Michigan 800 meter runners. Winner of the SEC Regional championship in the 1600 meters, Wetzel is now the fastest freshman in the history of Michigan Track & Field breaking the previous record set by Dathan Ritzenhein by more than three seconds. Currently ranked in the top ten nationally for both the 800 and 1600 meters in his age group, Wetzel is also ranked 4th (4:04.5) in the 1500 meters qualifying for the 2013 World Youth Championships to be held in the Ukraine.
