Red Wings Announce Hockeytown Winter Festival

The Red Wings are planning two weeks of hockey fun at Comerica Park leading up to the NHL Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium Jan. 1.

Planning on joining what’s expected to be a record-setting crowd to watch the Detroit Red Wings take on the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL Winter Classic Hockey Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium?

There’s a lot more hockey fun where that comes from.

Olympia Entertainment has announced a preliminary schedule for the 2012 Hockeytown Winter Festival, which will take place at Comerica Park during the final two weeks of December. Activities are planned from Dec. 15-31 with the action really heating up—or cooling down—starting Dec. 27.

Here is the schedule, with all the activities taking place at Comerica Park except the Jan 1 game at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor:

Dec. 27-31 — Outdoor festival featuring interactive games, autograph signings, face painting and ice sculpture exhibits as well as musical performances and entertainment.

Dec. 27-28 — Great Lakes Invitational featuring the Michigan Wolverines, Michigan State Spartans, Western Michigan Broncos and Michigan Tech Huskies all competing for the 2012 MacInnes Cup. 

Dec. 29 — Ontario Hockey League Doubleheader featuring the Windsor Spitfires taking on the Saginaw Spirit and the Plymouth Whalers battling the J. Ross Robertson Cup champion London Knights.

Dec. 30 — American Hockey League Game featuring the  Grand Rapids Griffins and Toronto Marlies, affiliates of the Red Wings and Maple Leafs. 

Dec. 31 — Red Wings-Maple Leafs Alumni showdown, featuring legends of two of the league’s “Original 6” franchises.

Jan. 1 — The NHL Winter Classic between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor.

According to the Detroit Red Wings, ticketing information for these events is being distributed to season-ticket-holders this month. For more information on season ticket sales, call 313-396-7575.
