VIEWFINDER: Hornets Swim to Back-to-Back Championships

Saline dominated Saturday's MHSAA Division 1 championship meet at Oakland University.

The Saline Hornets left no doubt as to which high school team was the best swim and dive squad in the state of Michigan.

Competing in the MHSAA Division 1 finals at Oakland University Saturday, the Hornets won the first three events of the championship and never looked back.

Saline finished with 384 points, exactly double that of second place Ann Arbor Pioneer.

David Boland, who won the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, and helped two relay teams to state championship, was named MHSAA Division 1 Swimmer of the Year. Adam Whitener also won two state titles and helped two relay teams to state championships. Mike Fisher also won a state championship with a record-setting performance in the 100 breaststroke.

The Hornets won all three relay events. Coach Todd Brunty was named MHSAA Division 1 Coach of the Year.
