Hornets Split Field Hockey Doubleheader

Saline went one-for-two against East Grand Rapids in field hockey Saturday

The Saline Hornets split a field hockey doubleheader with East Grand Rapids Saturday.

The Hornets won the first game, 3-1, but dropped the nightcap, 2-1.

Early on in game, East Grand Rapids pressured Saline, using lift passes to get past Saline’s defense. They scored late in the first half for a 1-0 lead.

The Hornets made adjustments at halftime and took control of the game.

Amelia Waters scored Saline’s first goal on a scramble in front of the East Grand Rapids goal.  The constant Saline pressure led to four penalty corners. Annie Carter and Allie Cope both scored on penalty corners to give Saline the 3-1 victory.

While doubleheaders are rare for Saline, they are commonplace for East Grand Rapids, who opened the game with greater intensity. Six minutes into the game, East Grand Rapids scored. They made it 2-0 on a breakaway goal 10 minutes later.

Annie Carter scored for Saline on a penalty corner, but the Hornets weren’t able to tie the game.

Saline is 4-3-2.

Saline hosts Mercy at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
