“Karla played very steady golf, hitting fairways and greens. She had been struggling a bit with her swing but got back to swinging well Thursday,” said coach Betsy French.

Sophomore Emily White shot an 88.

French said White struggled with her swing.

“But I'm confident she will return to winning form soon,” French said.

Fellow sophomore Stacy Cruze shot a 94. Senior Heather Vogt came in with a 96.

French was happy the opening day performance and said the team learned some lessons.

“As far as the team goes I think this was a good start for this team in a rebuilding year.I saw a lot of nice shots from our third to sixth players. I also saw where we need a lot of improvement, as did the girls. Now I think they really understand the need for short game practice!” French said. “We have a lot of potential and it matters how hard the girls want to work to realize that potential by the end of the year.”

The Hornets return to action again Monday at the Mason Invitational.
