Goike No-Hits Allen Park in Regional Final

Justin Goike struck out 12 in his no-hitter.

Justin Goike was the last guy in the ballpark to find out he'd just thrown a no hitter.

The recent Saline High School graduate struck out 12, walked three and allowed a runner to reach base on an error in Saturday's 8-0 win over Allen Park in the regional final at Monroe High School.

"I didn't know anything about it until right after the game when the guys told me," said Goike. "I was shocked. It was a nice surprise."

"I was just trying to stay focused on winning the game," Goike said.

Coach Scott Theisen said Goike is tough on hitters on days like Saturday.

"He's got that curve and when he gets control of it, he's tough," Theisen said.

In the fifth inning, while Goike was at work on the mound, teammate Justin Barnes grabbed one of the game balls and had all of the Hornets in the dugout sign it.

The Hornets will take on Livonia Stevenson at 4 p.m. Tuesday in a game at the University of Michigan.
