Make the time to take the time

When we’re in school, there are plenty of outlets for our passions and creativity. There are organized sports, band, art, service clubs and more. When we move on to college, there’s more of the same. However, once we’re done with school and begin a career, often moving away from home, how can we build a new connection and sense of belonging?

Better yet, after school or college, how do you meet new people or get involved in your new community?

Many young adults participate in their community in one day events or programs, bettering themselves and their community. What many don’t know is, there is an organization that can help young adults to engage their community while building lasting relationships, trust, leadership and entrepreneurial skills. These are the skills that will set these active young adults from the rest in the real world.

The Jaycees (Junior Chamber) is an organization for 21-40 year olds that helps bridge the gap left after school and college, by empowering its members to create positive change in their communities and each other by developing leadership through community service, personal and professional development and social opportunities. This organization is great for helping develop future business and community leaders, while providing the atmosphere for personal growth of all its members.

While some young adults let their busy schedules determine if there is time to get involved or not, taking the time to give back to your community is beneficial for all. Set a goal to leave and impact this year. Set the time aside to become more involved, and don’t forget that by serving others, the greatest impact is upon you. Do you have any suggestions on becoming more involved in your community? Visit the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/ypsilantijaycees and let them know!
