US News: Saline High School 9th Best in State

The high school was ranked fourth in the state in the 2011 Newsweek survey.

was ranked as Michigan’s ninth best high school in annual rankings released by US News & World Report.

The publication evaluated nearly 22,000 public high schools in 49 states and the District of Columbia. Schools were awarded gold, silver, or bronze medals based on state proficiency standards, how well they prepare students for college, and other factors. Saline received a silver medal and was ranked as the 525th best high school in the country.

All but one of the Michigan schools ahead of Saline, Grand Rapids City Middle/High School, had a lower teacher-to-student ratio than Saline’s (22-to-1). Saline ranked seventh in college readiness based on AP and IB exam results. Math and reading proficiency were also among the best in the state.

Superintendent Scot Graden said Tuesday morning that he had not yet reviewed the findings and that he would comment on the ranking at Tuesday night’s board meeting.

Saline has the highest ranked school in Washtenaw County. Ann Arbor Pioneer ranked 19th and Ann Arbor Huron was ranked 20th.

Last June, Saline High School as the 222nd best high school in America. That survey also ranked Saline as the fourth best high school in Michigan.
