Saline’s Third Annual Schools of Rock Performances to Aid Literacy

The Foundation for Saline Area Schools put together a silent auction and musical acts.

The Foundation for Saline Area Schools (FSAS) is hosting its third annual Schools of Rock on Dec. 2.  The event will feature mock rock performances by students and staff and runs alongside the Moonlight Madness Craft Show at the Saline Middle School. There will also be a Literacy Tree silent auction, which features Christmas trees decorated with a theme based off a children’s book. All proceeds from the Schools of Rock and silent auction will support the FSAS initiative Kids Who Read…Succeed!, which aims to build grade level-appropriate reading libraries in schools across the district.

“It was started as a fundraiser for a charitable group involving the staff of Saline Schools to give back to the community.  The involvement of the building principals and their staff and participation in this event is what keeps it going.  They have a tremendous amount of fun but giving of their time and effort is appreciated by the FSAS,” said Cheryl Hoeft, president of the FSAS and a retired teacher from the Saline school system.

The Schools of Rock will feature dance routines that Saline Schools staff and administrators have been working to refine since early November, according to Hoeft.  The silent auction will run from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m.  The public is welcome to participate in the auction.  The Schools of Rock show has an admission fee of $8 and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are available at the Liberty School Community Education Office and also include admittance to the craft show.  The Moonlight Madness Craft Show opens at 5 p.m.

“The Foundation for Saline Area Schools has chosen an area each year that they focus on.  This year its literacy, and that’s obviously an area that anybody in this district can use supported.  It’s a great cause that is supported by our teaching staff and administration.  It’s just a great thing,” said Saline Middle School Principal David Raft.

The Saline Area Schools received $65,000 in April for last year’s Project Lead the Way, which aimed to prepare students to be leaders and innovators in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
