Saline Community Education Welcomes New Team Members

Saline Community Education filled two important positions just in time for Fall Programming.

is happy to introduce two new members to their staff. Chase Stanton is the new Station Manager of the Saline Community Television Network and Jeff Waltz is now the Recreation and Enrichment Program Specialist.

Both say are excited about their positions, and eager to get started.

Stanton, a former production assistant for the community channel in Ann Arbor, is ready to get the ball, or tape, rolling. SCTN, channel 18 in Saline, is mainly a community bulletin board, with special events and interviews shown seasonally. Stanton is looking to do much more.

“The number one thing I want going into this is expanding programming,” he said.

Stanton plans to bring outside programs in from other sources, and encourages the public to come forward and pitch their show ideas.

“The city wants to keep it mainly educational, but I want to keep it fun for people too. I want them to be able to come in and create something they are passionate about,” he said.

Also in the works is a monthly interview feature where "anyone who is a mover and a shaker in the community," will be invited in to speak about what is going on in Saline, Stanton said.

When it comes to the vast number of sports, activities, events and enrichment classes Saline Community Education puts on every day, the person in charge must be organized.

Jeff Waltz is just the guy. He has deep Saline ties, a passion for sports, and a background in teaching in the Saline school district at both the middle and high schools. In fact, the new post is a homecoming of sorts. Waltz started out as a community education summer camp teacher when he was still a high school student in Saline.

“It’s just a natural fit for me here, and I’ve been really pleased with how much fun I ‘m having already,” Waltz said.

He will be in charge of scheduling the many sports teams that are organized through Saline Community Education, as well as all classes and special events.

Waltz said his diverse background will help with his position. Not only did he play baseball for Albion College, he is also the head coach of Saline's varsity girls' basketball team, and he has been involved in Saline sports in one way or another for the past twelve years.

Waltz is also looking forward to all of the other programs community education has to offer. He wasted no time sending out class instruction packets on his first day on the job, and is excited about popular Fall events, such as October's Daddy-Daughter dance.

Waltz says his main goal is to stay organized and keep programs running smoothly and build on community education's foundation.

“I really want to build our brand,” he said.
