Richart, Park are Pride of Saline Homecoming

Kelly Richart was voted Homecoming Queen and Evan Park was chosen as Mr. Pretty Legs during 2011 Saline Homecoming week.

The Saline Hornets' nest has its queen.

Kelly Richart was crowned Saline High School 2011 Homecoming Queen at halftime of the Saline-Monroe football game, Friday night.

Evan Park was selected as 2011 Mr. Pretty Legs.

Richart, the daughter of Linda and Willard Richart, runs cross country and competes in track and field. She plans to continue her studies at the University of Michigan next season.

"I was really surprised and it's really cool. I didn't expect to win. I am glad that people voted for me," Richart said.

Park, the son of John and Helen Park, is the co-captain of the cross country team and competes in track and field. He plans to study at the University of Michigan next year.

The cold temperatures, wind and rain presented some challenges, but it didn't spoil the fun.

"It was pretty cold," said Park, who, like the rest of the Mr. Pretty Leg nominees, wore shorts during the parade and the homecoming game. "But it wasn't too bad."

Richart said she and the other nominees spent time chatting and having fun.

"We just hung out and had fun and the weather didn't bother us much at al," she said.

Also nominated for Homecoming Queen were Taylor Helber, Serena Galea, Kendall Buie and Megan Rupp.

Helber is the daughter of Julie and Jim Helber. She is a member of SADD, Link Crew and was named Editor of the Year on the yearbook staff. She competes in gymnastics with Gymnastics America and plans to attend the University of Michigan next year.

Rupp is the daughter of Jill and Roger Rupp. She is a member of the National Honor Society, SADD, Link Crew, treasurer of the senior class and performs with Saline High School choirs. She volunteers with American Red Cross and was first runner up in the Miss Saline contest this summer. She plans to continue her studies at a college in the south.

Galea is the daughter of Jennifer and Sam Galea. She runs cross country and competes in track and field. She is also a member of SADD. She plans to study nutrition or sports medecine at Central Michigan University or Purdue.

Buie is the daughter of Angela and Bill Bouie. She is senior class president, editor-in-chief of the yearbook, a member of the National Honor Society and Link Crew. She works at Mangiamo's and is also a dancer. She was second runner-up in the Miss Saline cntest. She plans to study pyschology at the University of Michigan.

Nominated for Mr. Pretty legs were Kurt Mai, Jim Crowley, Joey Hornyak, Mitchell Dellot.

Mai is the drum major for Saline's marching band. He is also a member of the jazz band. He plans to study at the University of Michigan, where he will play in the marching band.

Crowley is the son of Mary and Tom Crowley. He runs cross country and participates in the marching band. He is a member of his church youth group and the Boy Scouts. He plans to continue his studies at Brigham Young University.

Joey Hornyak is the son of Ann and Joe Hornyak. He has competed for the Saline Special Olympics team and participates in karate. He plans to continue his education with the Young Adult Program in Saline.

Dellot is the son of Vicky and Tim Dellot. He plays with the marching band and is captain of the Saline Crew team. He plans to continue his studies at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.

Devon Wetzel and Dylan Jennings represented the class of 2013. John Dolsen and Gloria Park represented the class of 2014. Taylor Mulder and Tim Kiyabu represented the class of 2015.

In float building, the class of 2012 won the Principal's Award for it's "Clock'em" float. The class of 2014 took first place for its "Smoke'em" float. And the class of 2013 won the spirit award.
