MEAP Scores Slightly Lower at Milan in 2010

In the fall, students in Grades 3-9 were tested in math, reading, science, social studies and, for the first time, writing. Schools have had their student-level results since December.

All MEAP scores are divided into four performance levels: not proficient, partially proficient, proficient and advanced. Proficiency measures a student at a basic level of knowledge in a given curriculum area.

Milan students were more likely than their state counterparts to achieve advanced proficiency on seven of 18 tests. They were more likely to meet or exceed the state standard on six of the 18 tests.

The percentage of students showing advanced proficiency was higher in half of the 16 areas that were measured in 2009 and 2010. But the percentage of students meeting or exceeding the proficiency standard was also lower in 12 of the 16 areas measured in both of those years.
