Lloyd Carr to Give Commencement Speech to Saline High School Class of 2012

The 2012 SHS Commencement takes place at 6 p.m. June 3.

The ceremony takes place at 6 p.m., June 3, at Hornet Stadium.

“It’s a cool thing. Lloyd Carr has connections here in Saline. A few of the students reached out to him and asked him to be speaker and he said he’d be happy to do it,” said Saline Area Schools Superintendent Scot Graden.

It’s not Carr’s first Saline High School commencement speech, Graden said. Past speakers include legendary University of Michigan football coach Bo Schembechler, astronaut Jack Lousma, and former General Motors executive Bob Lutz.

Gates to Hornet Stadium open at 5 p.m. The line for commencement entrance beings at the gate entrance adjacent to the south parking lot. Seats are first-come, first-serve. Anyone needing to make arrangements for special needs seating should call Michelle Monahan at 429-8039.

Carr was head coach at Michigan for 13 years, compiling a 122-40 record. He guided the team to the 1997 national championship and won five Big Ten crowns. He was an assistant coach under Schembechler and Gary Moeller for 15 years. He coached at Westland John Glenn High School before starting his collegiate coaching career at Eastern Michigan in 1976.
