Heritage Elementary, Kiwanis Club Join Forces to Fight Hunger

The goal is to pack 20,000 meals which can be used to fight starvation during drought and natural disasters.

Students and staff at Heritage Elementary are partnering with the Kiwanis Club of Saline and Kids Against Hunger to package meals for people who are facing starvation due to drought, natural disasters or political turmoil.

Each meal consists of rice, a protein supplement and a flavoring additive and satisfies the nutritional requirements of six people. The meals themselves are designed to be palatable to people of all regions. The meals are boiled, thus making them safe for consumption. The cost to purchase, package and ship each meal is 28 cents.

At Heritage, the goal is to raise $5,000, which combined with the Kiwanis donation, should enable them to pack over 20,000 meals, feeding 120,000 servings.
