Washtenaw County Sheriff Offers Skywarn Spotter Classes

Residents can enroll in free Skywarn Spotter training in March and April.

The Emergency Services Division of the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the National Weather Service is offering Skywarn Spotter training in March and April.

The free classes are open to anyone 18 years or older who is interested in being trained in severe weather identification, protection, and reporting procedures.

The class will be held on March 13 from 7-9:30 p.m. at the Ypsilanti Township Civic Center, 7200 South Huron River Drive.

Another class will be offered April 6 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Pioneer High School, 601 West Stadium Blvd. in Ann Arbor.

Registration for both courses begins 30 minutes before posted start time. Class sizes are limited so participants must pre-register on the sheriff's website, or call 734-973-4900.trained last year are not required to attend re-training until next year.

The course is 2 hours long, and identification codes are issued to all who complete the program.
