Saline Main Street Program Off to Good Start

After two months, local organization is taking root in downtown.

After two months of existence, the continues to grow in popularity and scope, according to manager presented her monthly report to the Saline City Council Monday night.

“We’ve got some things rolling,” she said.

Idzikowski said a volunteer program is in the works and sponsorships are being sought to recognize those who give their time to the cause.

“So we can recognize them and show our appreciation and hopefully grown our volunteer base,” she said.

The promotions team has successfully run the , which opened with a crowd of 275 people and still draws around 200 for successive shows. The team uses outlets such as Facebook and Saline Patch to spread the word about events.

“Local business have been benefitting from the large crowds on Thursdays,” she said.

A large part of the budget went into the Summer Music Series on materials that can be reused in future years. Those include banners on Michigan and Ann Arbor streets and yard signs.

The design team has gathered 63 sponsorships totaling $4,725 for the flower baskets this year. The downtown beautification project has received excellent feedback.

The alley vision project is moving ahead as the Brecon Grille and Mangiamo’s have agreed to lease the alley for a small fee, she said.

The Economic Restructuring Team has been working with the city on a survey to develop a comprehensive study and strategy to help local businesses.

Idzikowski said she has been attending other community events and groups to increase awareness of Saline Main Street and to build relationships.

The Main Street office is now fully stocked with donations from local businesses, she said.
