Here's What's On Tap for Monday's Saline City Council Meeting

City Council meets at 7:30 p.m.

Saline City Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. Here’s what’s on tap:

• Jim Roth will give a presentation on events and activities regarding Saline’s sister cities, Brecon, Wales, and Lindenberg, Germany. The other address will come from Chloe Gleichman, who is making a presentation on hydraulic fracturing. Gleichman, a Saline High School graduate now studying at Central Michigan University, will speak about the controversial practice known as “fracking,” a method of oil and natural gas extraction. The practice has been criticized because of risks to air and groundwater quality.

• City council will consider a motion to award the 2011 sanitary sewer cleaning and televising services to Terra Contracting LLC for $17,824.

• Council will consider a motion to approve a concept for the cemetery retaining wall and it will consider whether or not to let staff proceed with the construction and installation of the retaining wall and seek proposals for the burial crypts. The concept would allow for more burial spaces in Oakwood Cemetery. The retaining wall may help buffer the cemetery from noise from U.S. 12.

• The consent agenda includes: payment of $294,631.54 in bills; Mayor Gretchen Driskell’s proclamation of September as National Recovery Month (substance abuse); rescheduling of the final Summer Music Series concert, featuring Six Foot Poles, to Aug. 11.
