It is with sincere regret that I resign my seat on city council effective Saturday, September 24, 2011. I recently accepted an elementary teaching position in Menominee, Michigan and of course the distance will prevent me from serving. This was by no means an easy decision. While I am excited to start this new chapter of my life I also regret that I will not be able to serve with such a fine, professional and caring group of people. I will truly miss all of you and the city staff who are the best in the state. I would be remiss if I also didn’t thank the residents of this great city for allowing and entrusting me to serve. I hope I will be able to properly give an in person thank you to all of you before the year is out.  Good luck to all of you and God bless.

Yours sincerely,

Law's resignation means that there are now running for the three positions. Running are incumbents Linda TerHaar and Jim Peters, along with Jim Roth and John Heller. Peters was appointed to council this year when Pat Ivey resigned to take a job in Colorado.

Law said the job opportunity came up really quick.

"I'll miss being in the Christmas Parade and all of the parades, but mostly I'll miss being a part of city council," Law said.

He said he would attend the council meeting Dec. 19.
