Driskell to Give State of City Address

City Council will also revisit the plan for three emergency warning sirens.

Mayor Gretchen Driskell will give her final “State of the City” address when Saline City Council meets at City Hall at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

Here’s what else is on tap for a meeting with a light agenda:

• City Council will take up the matter of placement of emergency warning sirens. There are two serving the city right now. Council is looking into the placement of three new sirens.  At the first July meeting, members of council asked if the sirens could be located so that the city’s northwest neighborhoods would have better coverage. Another issue is activation. The sirens are currently activated by Saline Police dispatchers. The new sirens would be activated by Washtenaw County. It will cost $7,500 to $9,000 for the city to retain activation access. The new sirens are being paid for by a Homeland Security grant, although the city will pay $2,000 to take down existing equipment and about $1,500 a year in maintenance costs for the new sirens.
