U.S. 23 Crash Kills 2 Children; Police Seek Identity of Driver

Three other family members were hospitalized after Friday's crash.

Two children were killed on U.S. 23 in Pittsfield Township Friday when a vehicle carrying seven family members from Novi crashed after it was cut off by another vehicle, police say.

Jordan Siegel, 14 and Ashley Siegel, 12, suffered significant injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene by the medical examiner. Huron Valley Ambulance transported five members of the family to University of Michigan and St. Joseph hospitals in Ann Arbor. All are listed in stable condition, according the Michigan State Police. 

Police are seeking the public's help in determining the identity of the other motorist involved.

Just before 3 p.m., a white 1999 Ford Expedition carrying seven members of the family southbound on U.S. 23 near Textile Road when it was cut off by a light gray or silver minivan with a paper license plate, possibly a Honda Odyssey, witnesses told police. The driver of the Expedition swerved on to the median lane to avoid the minivan, losing control and rolling several times, according to police. The driver of the minivan continued southbound on U.S. 23, according to the report.

The Expedition was driven by Dawn Siegel, mother of the deceased children.

The family is from Novi, according to WDIV-TV's Clickondetroit.com..
