The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office is urging residents in the village of Dexter and surrounding townships to lock their vehicle doors and not leave valuable items in plain view.

According to Sgt. Keith Flores, deputies have been investigating several vehicle thefts in Dexter Village and Dexter Township since January.

On Jan. 27, deputies were dispatched to the 9000 block of Huron Street in Dexter Township for a vehicle larceny complaint. According to police reports, sometime between 2 p.m. on Jan. 26 and 8 a.m. on Jan. 27, an unknown suspect or suspects broke out the window of the victim's van and stole a GPS unit.

On Jan. 28 at approximately 5:30 p.m., an unknown suspect or suspects entered two vehicles in the 8000 block of Main Street in the village of Dexter. The suspects broke the windows of the vehicles and stole purses, credit cards, cell phones, gift cards, etc. All items were left out in the open, Flores said. According to police, both vehicles were parked between two buildings, which helped conceal the theft.

On Feb. 6, deputies responded to the 2800 block of Sagebrush Circle in Scio Township for a larceny that occurred between Feb. 4 and Feb. 5. According to police, the victim stated he left his vehicle parked in front of his home and when he came out the next day he noticed that someone had cut of his catalytic converter.

According to police, there are no suspects and no other reports of catalytic converter theft in the area.
