Police Report: Dog Freed from Hot Shed, Car Stolen

Saline Police Free Dog from Hot Shed

A Saline police officer and Humane Society of Huron Valley employee broke into a shed on Austin Road to free a dog during last week’s heat wave.

On Wednesday, police received a tip from a neighbor that the dog had been locked in the shed while the owner was away.

The officer and Humane Society employee arrived and heard the dog scratching to get out of the padlocked shed. With the temperature at 97 and fearing for the dog’s safety, the officer removed the hasp of the lock and entered the shed without damage, according to the police report.

They found the dog panting heavily. It was placed in the air-conditioned Humane Society van.

According to the police officer’s notes, the temperature in the shed was 30 to 40 degrees higher than the 97-degree temperature outside.

Car Stolen

A Dogwood Court man said he had his car stolen sometime between 11:40 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man told police he returned home to find his keys missing and his 2002 Chevy Cavalier nowhere to be found.

Budweiser Stroller Arrested on Warrant

Police arrested a 29-year-old Saline man on an outstanding warrant Sunday. At about 3:30 p.m., police were tipped off about a man drinking beer as he walked along North Harris Street. Police found the man sitting on the path along North Harris Street with a 24-ounce can of Budweiser, according to reports. He said he bought the beer at the store and was drinking on the way home, police said. He was cited for having an open intoxicant in public and arrested for failure to appear in court on a driving with a suspended license charge.

License Tab Stolen

A 28-year-old Valley Circle resident reported to police that someone removed the license plate tab from his motorcycle parked in a carport at Six Trails Apartments.

By the Numbers

Police made 27 calls to assist motorists or citizens between July 19-26. During the same time, police issued 20 speeding tickets.
