Police Report: Saline Teens Break into BP, Lock Themselves in Cooler

The following reports are from Saline Police Department records dated June 21-27. Arrests do not indicate conviction.

A  trio of 17-year-old Saline teenagers were arrested in connection with a break-in at the  construction site at 777 W. Michigan Avenue at 1 a.m. June 26. The gas station is being reconstructed.

An officer patrolling the area heard a loud bang from inside the building and investigated, spotting a teenager dressed in black crouched down on the floor putting something in his backpack, according to the police report. Police determined there were others involved and called for other subjects to reveal themselves. The remaining two suspects yelled back that they were locked in a cooler in the back of the store, according to the report. Police opened the cooler and took the suspects into custody.

With the assistance of Pittsfield Township Police, all three were transported to Saline Police Department.

One of the suspects told police that they broke into to the store because they were bored and wanted to have some fun, according to the report. Police found beverages in a backpack at the scene, according to the report.

Man Enters Garage, Drives Away on Bike

A woman on the 300 block of West Woodland Drive reported that a man entered the home's attached garage, took her son’s bike and rode away at about 11 a.m., June 25.

She told police she was sitting in the house with only the screen door to the garage closed, according to the report. She noticed a man riding away from the garage on her son’s bike and called police.

The Scott Reflex bicycle is worth an estimated $540.

Police searched the area with no results.

Hit and Run Reported 

Police have no leads in a minor hit-and-run crash at North Maple and Michigan shortly after 6 p.m., June 27.

A 67-year-old Tecumseh woman in a 2009 Cadillac was northbound on Maple Road when she crossed Michigan Avenue with a green light, according to police. A second vehicle, described as a silver Pontiac Grand Am from 2000-05, turned left into the path of the Cadillac, according to the report. According to the report, the driver of the Grand Am said she did not want police called and left without providing information.

The driver of the vehicle was described as a female in her mid-20s with blonde hair, according to the report. There was a child in the backseat of the car.

Purse stolen

A 19-year-old Saline woman said her Vera Bradley purse was stolen from a locker at the Saline Rec Center June 25. She said the purse, along with $60-80 in cash was taken between 3:40 and 4 p.m., according to the report.

Lawn Ornaments Missing 

A 58-year-old resident of the Maple Road mobile home community said someone stole wrought iron candle holders and yard ornaments worth $60 from her home June 21, according to a report.
