Armed Robbery Suspect Planned Hold Up at Saline ATM, Police Say

Police say the 30-year-old Saline Township man copped to two armed robberies at Pittsfield Township ATMs.

Police say a man they believe is responsible for armed robbery at two Pittsfield ATMs was arrested as he was about to rob a third in Saline, Monday night.

A 30-year-old Saline Township man by and has been lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail pending review of the cases by the Wasthenaw County Prosecutor’s Office. According to a press release issued by Saline Police Chief Paul Bunten, the man confessed to police that he was in the about to rob a person at the ATM on North Maple Road and to the robberies at Chase ATMs in Pittsfield Township over the weekend.

According to Saline police, the department received a “credible tip” that someone was going to rob a subject at an ATM in Saline. Saline Police surveiling bank machines in the city spotted a man wearing a stocking hat and dark clothing walking north of United Bank and Trust near the ATM. Police  confronted the man,, who took off running, police say. Police say he dropped a bb gun that police believe was used in weekend hold ups. The man got away from police, but he was arrested a short time later in a traffic stop.

, conducting surveillance due to the previous armed robberies heard the call being dispatched and assisted the Saline Police Department with taking the man into custody. Pittsfield Police assisted Saline Police in questioning the subject.

According to police, the man said he committed the robberies to feed a heroin addiction.

The man is expected to face two counts of armed robbery and one count of attempted armed robbery, according to police.
