Saline Farmers Market - Lots of Fresh, Local Produce and So Much More!

Fresh Local Produce at the Saline Farmers Market

This is such an abundant time of year with lots of vegetables and fruits at the Saturday and Tuesday Farmers Markets.

Are you one of the few left who do canning? If so, you will find at the Farmers Market ½ pecks, whole pecks, ½ bushels and whole bushels of tomatoes, peaches, green beans, pickles (cucumbers), as well as bunches of beets and other veggies for freezing or canning.

“My family loves canned peaches and pears,” says Nancy Crisp, Market Manager.  “I know it’s a fair amount of work but it’s really worth it.”

We are also seeing apples at the market and it won’t be long before it is time to make applesauce and freeze or can it…yum!  And, of course there is the winter squash that freezes so well.  Freezing and canning is a great way to preserve the fresh taste of seasonal vegetables and fruit.

There is so much more at our markets including delectable baked goods, fresh local cheese, eggs, jams/jellies, honey, hummus and pesto, and hand-crafted items.
