AUDITIONS COMING SOON FOR "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka" - Saline Area Players

Saline Area Players will be holding auditions and a preparatory workshop for "Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka" in January.

The Saline Area Players are gearing up for their big musical show this season.  Auditions for “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” take place in a few weeks, and the audition workshop for kids is in one week.  The show promises to be lots of fun for those in the cast of all ages, the many people working behind the scenes, and those in the audience.  It is a new show for us and is one of the highlights of our 40th Anniversary Season.  Willy Wonka will be directed by Tami Hindes with musical direction by Bob Cindric.

For those interested in auditioning, kids ages 7 through high school can audition on January 27 from 2:30-6:30 at the Saline Middle School Auditorium, 7190 N. Maple St. Auditions for adults will take place on Monday, January 28 at 7:00 or Tuesday, January 29 at 7:00 p.m at the same location.  Callbacks, if needed, will be Thursday, January 31 at 7:00 at Liberty School Auditorium. Rehearsals will typically take place 6:30-9:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings, with an occasional Friday or Wednesday rehearsal. Rehearsals will begin February 11.  The show will be performed at Saline High School April 19-21, 2013.

Adult auditioners should be prepared to sing 16 bars of a musical theater song.  Kids will be asked to sing a portion of The Candy Man - see website at www.salineareaplayers.org for details.  The song will be taught at auditions and also at the audition workshop on January 13. All will be asked to do cold readings from the script and improvisational exercises. Those auditioning should also bring a list of their conflicts between February 11 and April 21.  Men, women and children/teens are needed for this cast.

The audition workshop for kids (ages 7 through high school) takes place on January 13 from 3-5:00 at Liberty School Auditorium, 7265 N. Ann Arbor St., Saline.  If you’re thinking about auditioning, please join us for this workshop to learn the song you can sing at auditions, hear about the show, try some improvisational games, and receive good tips for auditioning.

Roald Dahl's Willy Wonka is a musical play that combines elements of both Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and of the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory with newly created material. This timeless story of the world-famous candy man and his quest to find an heir comes to life in this stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate FactoryWilly Wonka runs a contest in which the 5 lucky people who find Golden Tickets inside Wonka bars win a tour of the chocolate factory and a lifetime supply of chocolate.  As they go through the tour, the temptations abound and some find they can’t resist what’s inside, with calamitous results.   Familiar songs include Pure Imagination and The Candy Man plus many more.

If you are interested in helping out with the production, but don’t like to be on stage, we have lots of options including help with sewing or finding costumes, making or gathering props, setting up the program, graphic design, painting, building, assisting with publicity, and help backstage during the performance.  If you’re interested in trying anything behind the scenes, please contact president@salineareaplayers.org  We love to meet new people!

Full audition information and character descriptions are listed on the website:  www.salineareaplayers.org.  Additional questions about auditions should be sent to the director, Tami Hindes at 517-902-9960 or tabi34@yahoo.com
