Warm Temperatures Close Henne Field Ice Rink

The rink will reopen when the ice is ready, says DPW Director Fordice.

Nature isn’t cooperating with families who’d like to spend an afternoon of winter break skating at ice rink.

The rink is installed but the ice isn’t ready.

“We are going to open the rink as soon as we have a solid base of ice,” said Jeff Fordice, Director of Saline’s .

Fordice said that four of the past five days have had high temperatures well above freezing.

“Also, we’ve had rain, sleet and snow, which make it difficult to maintain the surface when we don’t have temperatures consistently below freezing,” Fordice said.

When ice is ready, the rink is open from 8 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Hockey sticks and pucks will be allowed from 3-6 p.m. Monday-Friday, and from 9-11 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Users skate at their own risk. Safety gear is recommended. The city does not provide an attendant on duty.
