Sunday's Kittypalooza Offers Two Kittens for the Price of One

With the shelter full of animals in need of homes, the Humane Society of Huron Valley is providing incentive to adopt kittens and cats.

With the shelter full of pets in need of a home, the Humane Society of Huron Valley is offering discounted rates to find owners for kittens and cats.

The shelter, located at 3100 Cherry Hill Rd., Ann Arbor, hosts "Kittypalooza" from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.

"We have so many kittens and cats right now. We are completely full," said Deb Kern, marketing director for the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

During the event, kittens will be available for a two-for-one cost of $80. There are also coupons that will entitle adoptive "parents" to $20 off.

According to Kern, all kittens and cats are fixed, up-to-date on vaccinations and come with a microchip identification. Every adopter will receive a goodie bag. Food and drinks will be served.

Kern said the Humane Society of Huron Valley is proud of the fact that staff save 81 percent of the animals that enter the open admissions shelter. The save rate looks good when contrasted against a Detroit Free Press report that suggested 70 percent of dogs and cats brought to the Michigan Humane Society were euthanized.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley is not affiliated with Michigan Humane Society or the Humane Society of the United States.

"We rely on individual and corporate donations," Kern said.
