Summer Fun and Celebration Await at the Saline Recreation Center

Summer enrollment is now open for classes and events, most notably a free weekend celebration in honor of the rec center's 20th anniversary

All summer long the Saline Recreation Center will be bustling with activity.  Summer enrollment is now open for camps, classes, trips and special events. The Saline Recreation Center has something for every age this summer, from tot to adult.

Sunshine Lambert, the Rec Center's Facility Director, is excited for the summer lineup.

“There are so many great opportunities to be active, have fun, meet up with friends and make memories this summer!” she said.

For the youngest participant who aren’t quite ready to be away from mom or dad, there are parent and tot sports classes and activities, including Parent and Tot Soccer and Tot Play Group. As kids advance, there are Pee Wee leagues in soccer and T-Ball. For kids who want a taste of different sports to help decide what they prefer, there will be a Pee Wee Sports Clinic that introduces hockey, tennis, soccer and baseball.

The Recreation Center has offerings for older kids, teens and adults.

“We are registering for Summer Kids Camp, Pee Wee Soccer, T-ball, swim lessons, tennis lessons, adult sports leagues (soccer, kickball, softball, sand volleyball) and more,” said Lambert.

The camps are in place as a solution for working parents who need assistance with childcare over the summer.

“Our Summer Kids Camp is a lot of fun for kids, and is based on weekly themes,” Lambert said. Themes vary from Disco Inferno and Kids Camp’s Got Talent to American Pastimes. Weekly field trips are included.

The event creating the most buzz among the community is the all-weekend celebration on June 17-19 in honor of the center’s 20th Anniversary. Why all the buzz?  Because it is free.

On June 17, there will be a movie in the park, featuring the film "Despicable Me," as well as other kids activities sponsored by Daycroft Montessori. On June 18 there will be a Luau in the Saline Recreation pool with raffles, games, crafts and a cookout.  Then on Sunday, June 19 the center will host an Open House, where visitors can try out all parts of the facility, even fitness classes, for free.
