Captsone Program Changes the Look of the Classroom

Saline Superintendent Scot Graden posted this video detailing the new Capstone Program at Saiine High School. The program includes English, Science and Social Science components. It is a blended class, where students will meet in a large group, small group and work independently online, including on mobile devices. Students will also be required to learn through service in the community. Patch will be looking into this program later this summer.

There's an nice travel piece about Saline and Tecumseh written by Jane Ammeson of the Grand Rapids Press. The article highlights the history of the towns and explains how both downtowns are using their historic assets today.

Lawn Chemical Suspected in Death of Trees

Detroit Free Press writer Cecil Angel posted a story on a lawn care chemical that is suspected of killing trees as if they are weeds. In the story is a picture of a dying tree in the yard of Saline resident Dale Matthews.

USA! USA! USA!

The Detroit Free Press visited Ann Arbor to watch the Michigan Girls Soccer Camp players watch the U.S. women's team play against Japan in the World Cup finals. Saline resident Reggie Duerst is pictured cheering after a goal by the U.S. team.

All Aboard the History Train

As the county considers commuter rail, Ann Arbor Chronicle's Laura Bien has an interesting blog on the history of rail connections in Washtenaw County, including a look at the Detroit, Hillsdale and Indiana Railroad's Saline-to-Ypsilanti line that was a boon to local farmers. It's a must-read for history buffs.
