Saline Summerfest Fast Approaching

The event's planning committee still needs volunteers.

Saline Summerfest, an annual summer homecoming party, takes place downtown Aug. 5-6.

With over 32 items of interest on the agenda, plus a plethora of artists to tempt shoppers, organizers hope the festival offers many things of interest for the entire family.

For two days, downtown Saline will be transformed into one giant street fair with food, entertainment, kids activities, shopping…and don’t forget, more food. The Saline Fire Department will host an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast to get things started, and offer up about 1,000 chicken dinners later in the day. Food and munchies will also be provided by Saline Lindenberg, the Kiwanis and Lions Club food wagons and other vendors.

“The bands for Summerfest will include 56 Daze on Friday night, and Scoot Magoo on Saturday Night,” Trapp said. “We will also have Dr. Pocket, 100% Proof, Horse Cave Trio, Fiddlers Restrung and the Motor City Outlaws.”

In a tent near the entertainment will be a Black Jack Challenge sponsored by Saline Rotary.

As expected, Summerfest features annual events such as the Saline Street Machine Car Show, Touch-a-Truck, an early morning 5K, fishing contests, volleyball and remote control car races. For the first time, Summerfest will present tricycle races.

Anchoring the event is the Art Show and vendor booths.

Helen Martin is the key organizer for the Summerfest Art Show. She said there will be something intriguing for everyone in the family.

“In addition to booths showcasing everything from jewelry to wood toys, to photography to zombie penguins, a caricaturist can do their portrait, an artist can paint their face, draw henna on their hands, weave feathers in their hair, or customize hats, bags, or bookmarks,” she said.

On Friday, the event runs from 5-11 p.m. Saturday, the event kicks off at 8 a.m. and winds down at 11 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed to help with various events, including booth sitters to allow the artists to take breaks and 5K helpers. To sign up to help, contact Art Trapp at atrapp@cityofsaline.org or 734-429-4907.
