Saline Man Killed in Crash South of Toledo

Erik Parks, 18, of Saline was killed when the truck he was in went off the road near the Bono Curve south of Toledo, OH.

One Saline man is dead and another is in hospital after a traffic crash this morning south of Toledo, OH, according to a media release issued by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Erik E. Parks, 18, of Saline was killed in a crash at approximately 3:20 a.m. Parks was a front-seat passenger in a 1995 Chevrolet pickup that was westbound on Jerusalem Road, just east of milepost 33 near the Bono Curve, when it traveled off the north side of the road and struck the end of the guardrail. Parks was pronounced dead at the scene. The Bono Curve is a 90-degree turn on what is otherwise a straight highway.

The driver, Andrew L. Roberts, 18, of Saline was transported to St. Vincent Hospital. He is listed in fair condition.

It is not known whether the vehicle's occupants were wearing safety belts, according to a highway patrol news release. Investigators were unsure this morning what caused the truck to leave the road, the release said.

Parks and Roberts are former students of Saline Area Schools. They were on their way home from a trip to New York state, according to the release.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by local sheriff’s departments, police, fire, Life Flight and the county coroner's office.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Toledo Post.
