Humane Society of Huron Valley Celebrates the 2000th Adoption of 2012

A four-month-old wire-haired dachshund mix, named Bernadette was adopted by a family connected with the HSHV for years.

The 2,000th adoption of 2012, at the Humane Society of Huron Valley was exciting for many reasons. Not only did a sweet, four month-old wire-haired dachshund mix, named Bernadette get adopted, but the family that adopted her has been connected to HSHV for years.

The Bergman family has been coming to HSHV once a year, every year, since their son Jonah was seven years old (he's now fourteen!). They live in California now, but always stop by HSHV to see the dogs when they're in the area visiting family. Recently they had their eye out for the perfect new family member, and on Friday, July 27 they found Bernadette.

“Bernadette could not have found a better home,” said Renee Benell, HSHV Adoptions and Customer Service Manager. “They visited with her on Friday and put an adoption hold on her while they discussed travel arrangements. They understand that a pet is a lifetime commitment and were excited to make her a part of their family.”

Bernadette flew to her home in California on Jonah’s lap last Saturday. The Bergman’s sent us photos from her trip. Jonah love’s his new puppy and told us that Bernadette is fitting in nicely and is a great little traveler too.

HSHV has so many wonderful animals ready for adoption and about 25 percent of them are purebreds. Adopting a pet from the shelter or a rescue is not only a responsible thing to do, it can save a life.
